Resumo

Objective: The aim of this study was to discuss the importance of converting from conventional agricultural practices to more sustainable farming styles, based on the agroecological transition process. Methods: This study is qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive in nature and was designed through an Integrative Review (IR), drawing up a dialogue from the perspective of Macrae et al. (1990), Hill (1985) and Gliessman (2002), with a view to generating new knowledge based on scientific results. Results: The findings point to the need to discuss the processes involved in the agroecological transition, its complexities, and tensions, with a view to promoting sustainable agriculture. Conclusions: Agriculture is one of the main practices for promoting human sustenance, since it is from agriculture that the food that fulfils human nutritional needs comes. However, over the decades, agricultural practice has sought to improve the production process, and essentially the conditions for producing more in less time, and this process has been permeated by mistaken production practices, soil management and conservation, and especially the overvaluing of agrochemicals.
