Objetive: The purpose of this work was to carry out a vector analysis of the velocities that compounds the string crossing, in order to allow a better understanding of how the movement happens, as well as to provide conditions for violinists to analyze the biomechanics involved and thus perform the string crossing in a planned, correct way, free of parasitic movements and without harming performance and the physical health. Methods: To carry out the proposed vector analysis, four cases of string crossing were considered, considering the direction of bow and crossing between low to high pitch string and vice-versa. The planar movement of the string crossing was decomposed and the horizontal and vertical components of were compared, in order to identify the similarities and differences in each of the cases. Results: The obtained results allowed classifying the changes in two categories: concave and convex, the former being more complex to be executed than the latter. Conclusion: From this work, violinists will have a better understanding of how the string changing movement takes place, as well as being able to plan and execute it in a way that does not compromise the sound quality or their physical health.
