Flash catalytic proslysis of biomass from Monoraphidium sp. microalgae before and after lipid extraction and its lipid extract was investigated to generate a bio-oil with improved characteristics. Flash pyrolysis was developed at 500 °C in an analytical micro-pyrolyzer coupled to a gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) instrument and the pyrolysis vapors were transported to a catalytic bed at 300 °C. Pyrolysis vapors were improved in the catalytic pyrolysis using zeolite HZSM-5. The catalyst promoted the deoxygenation and complete denitrogenation of the products. For the biomass of Monoraphidium sp. microalgae before and after lipid extraction, the catalyst increased the formation of aromatics in the biomass before and after extraction to 87.45% and 95.08%, respectively. For the pyrolysis of the lipid extract, most of the renewable aliphatic hydrocarbons obtained were from the range of fuels such as gasoline and kerosene. The products identified are useful in different segments of the chemical industry and can also be used as aromatics additives in advanced fuels.
