PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF WOOD FROM TWO SPECIES OF THE GENUS CECROPIA: PROPRIEDADES FÍSICAS DA MADEIRA DE DUAS ESPÉCIES DO GÊNERO CECROPIA

The objective of this work was to determine the potential use of two forest species of the genus Cecropia, namely: Cecropia distachya Huber and Cecropia sciadophylla Mart., evaluating the physical properties. The specimens and tests followed NBR 7190/97. Average densities were obtained for species of 0.33 g / cm3 and 0.28 g/cm3 respectively, classifying them as light wood, occurring variation from the base to the top and marrow-exchange, both species density increased in the direction of the base to the top and the medulla to the exchange. For linear contraction, 7.61%, 3.13% and 0.83%, respectively, were observed for tangential, radial and longitudinal contractions for C. distachya; for C. schiadophylla the values found were 6.45%, 3.05% and 0.87% for tangential, radial and longitudinal contractions. The volumetric retratibility was 11.22%, the coefficient of variation was 2.70, and for C. schiadophylla the volumetric retratibility value was 10.08% and the anisotropy coefficient was 2.69.
