INFLUENCE OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS ON THE REDUCTION OF ACCIDENTS IN PERUVIAN MINING

Resumo

An exhaustive analysis of fatal accidents in Peruvian mining was carried out, considering the type of mining company, whether it is a mining company, a related company, or a mining contractor, considering the implementation of regulations regarding occupational health and safety and its influence, evaluating the type of occurrence of fatal accidents during the period 2000-2021. Objective: to determine the influence of mining regulations on the reduction of fatal accidents in Peruvian mining. Methods: a quantitative and non-experimental approach was used, with a descriptive cross-sectional design of an analytical method with a documentary analysis, all fatal accidents reported to the MINEM period 2000-2021 were used as a population universe. Results: a total of 1123 fatal accidents were obtained with an average of 53 accidents per year and a reduction of 16.92% in recent years throughout the study period, with rockfall as the predominant cause, with the implementation of prevention standards such as DS.023-2017-EM. Conclusion: the reduction of fatal accidents was verified due to the influence of the regulations that had a positive effect on the reduction of fatal accidents in the period analyzed.
