    Resumo

    The study was a prevailing necessity for the mining company where the study was carried out because the existing ones are bordering the limits allowed by the authorities Objective: identify if during its construction and operation with the materials used, the design of the container would be stable with established safety factors Methods: laboratory tests, analysis and simulation of these containers were used with Slide software that allowed us to visualize that the results were acceptable as the characterization of the rock mass if in which it was built is of the type of bad rock (class IV) according to the Bieniawski RMR geomechanical classification Results: the permeability of the material used is moderately permeable (0.000019 to 0.000048 cm/s), its deformability was found in a range of 2 to 4 cm, the cohesion for the dam in construction and operation stages in the first stage and in the second in static and pseudostatic conditions in soils with the presence of volcanic ash (silty sands) was 10 KPa and in volcanic rocks it was 75 KPa, The angle of friction for the main and secondary dam during its construction and operation varies whether they are upstream and downstream with ranges between 31º to 35º Conclusion: from what has been analyzed, the safety factors for the main and secondary dams in static and pseudostatic conditions vary from 1.2 to 1.9, which are higher than the established standards. Therefore, it indicates that the construction of such containers is allowed to be carried out.
