Due to the increase on the number of devices connected to home networks, the need for contents in the Internet, such as video streaming from Netflix and Youtube, has also increased. Thus, Internet providers began a race to increase the bandwidth available to their users in both the core and the edge of their networks. In this context, one of the Future Internet proposals addresses this problema and must be highlighted: the Named Data Networking (NDN), a new network architecture that tends to release part of these flows in the core of the Internet and brings it to the edge of a network. In this article the performance of NDN in wireless home networks, in terms of CPU and memory utilization and network throughput, is evaluated. The NDN implementation feasibility in this scenario is also evaluated. NDN evaluation in home networks was done by using low cost network devices, such as the RouterBoard routers.
