SEGURIDAD ALIMENTARIA EN POBLACIONES INDÍGENAS Y CAMPESINAS: UNA REVISIÓN SISTEMÁTICA

Food security and the vulnerability of indigenous and peasant populations to this have become a topic of interest in public health worldwide, leading to increased research pertaining to its measurement, classification, and determinants. The aim of this systematic review was to describe the current status of food security in indigenous and peasant populations as well as methods used for its evaluation. A literature search was performed on the PubMed (5), ScienceDirect (221), and Scopus (377) databases. In total, 603 items were identified while reviewing publications between 2004 and 2015. At the end of the screening process and after including items identified in the scientific literature, 25 articles were obtained for analysis. In the 11-year period (2004–2015) evaluated, scientific activity around the topic of food insecurity was poor, with only 4.54% of the total articles pertaining to this topic published per year; however, this percentage increased to 63% in 2011, with 13 publications within a year. Diverse factors that influence the development of food insecurity include climate change, agricultural diversity, globalization, and market Westernization.
