CARACTERIZAÇÃO DO EVENTO DE ENCHENTE NO ANO DE 2014 EM GUARAPUAVA-PR: CHARACTERIZATION OF THE FLOOD EVENT IN 2014 IN GUARAPUAVA-PR

In recent years, there have been considerable increases in climate-related environmental problems. Among these climatic disasters, storms and floods are the ones that do the most damage. In this sense, the objective of this work was to evaluate the main factors associated to the floods that occurred in the Guarapuava-PR region, considering urban growth and historical precipitation data based on the flood that occurred in June 2014. An analysis of urban growth in Guarapuava and the behavior of rainfall was analyzed based on a historical time series with data recorded in the period from 1976 to 2016. A descriptive statistical analysis of the data was held and the obtained results from urbanization and precipitation were opposed and argued. Guarapuava grew by approximately 400% from 1970 to 2017, both in area and population. Through 42 years of records, 77 events of excess precipitation were recorded. The 2014 event, despite being the largest precipitation record over the entire evaluated period, has shown recurring behavior throughout history. Increasing urbanization in an unplanned manner results in more intense environmental disasters.
