    Resumo

6 Photosynthesis is a fundamental biological process by which plants convert solar energy 7 into chemical energy in the form of sugars. This process involves two major stages: the 8 light-dependent reactions and the light-independent reactions (Calvin cycle). In the light 9 reactions, light energy is used to generate NADPH and ATP, which are essential for 10 carbon reduction in the Calvin cycle. The process begins with the absorption of light by 11 photosystem II (PSII) and photosystem I (PSI), followed by the transport of electrons 12 through a series of redox reactions involving various protein complexes, including 13 cytochrome b6f. The production of ATP is driven by a proton gradient generated across 14 the thylakoid membrane, as protons are pumped into the lumen. The ultimate goal of 15 photosynthesis is to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) into carbohydrates, a process that is 16 vital for plant growth and productivity. This article discusses the various components of 17 the photosynthetic machinery, the electron transport chain, and the metabolic processes 18 involved in carbon fixation and sugar production. Additionally, it highlights how different 19 plant types, such as C3, C4, and CAM plants, utilize distinct mechanisms for CO2 20 fixation, and how these processes affect plant efficiency, particularly under varying 21 environmental conditions.
